HEALTH ECOMOMICS  WORKSHOP

This half day course will provide an overview of cost effectiveness analysis and examples of economic evaluations that have been conducted alongside ICU trials.  Practical information on methods for prospectively collecting costs and outcomes data will be provided, including methods for administrative data linkage. It is aimed specifically at ICU researchers who are or will be conducting trials in an ICU setting and want to understand the requirements for an economic analysis of the trial. Topics covered in this course include:

  • Key terminology and types of economic evaluations
  • Designing a health economic evaluation
  • Collecting relevant cost data for ICU economic evaluations
  • Methods to assess quality of life and other effectiveness outcomes in ICU economic evaluations
  • Prospective planning and budgeting for economic evaluations alongside trials
  • A review and critical appraisal of economic evaluations in critical care medicine

Price: $150 + GST for research coordinators/nursing/allied health; $200 plus GST for medical; prices includes morning tea and lunch
