SUMMARY:ANZICS 2024 Intensive Care Datathon
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nWe are excited to announce the next ANZICS Intensive Care Datathon will be held on Tuesday 9th April 2024\, 9am to 5pm. Partnered with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT)\, the event will be held at The Gibson Room\, Level 10\, QUT Gardens Point Room\, Brisbane. Gardens Point Campus map \n  \nThis is a great opportunity to explore large intensive care health datasets motivated by real-world questions with clinicians and data scientists working side-by-side.\nLearn new skills and be mentored by the best in the field.\nRegistration is free!\nWhat is a Datathon why is it important?\nA datathon is an interactive event where participants work together in teams to solve a clinical question through applying data science tools and techniques to analyse large dataset(s). Clinicians and data scientists (including trainees) work together to generate insights and potential solutions to the clinical question. \nSince 2017\, ANZICS has hosted datathons to provide opportunities for intensive care clinicians and trainees\, data scientists\, biostatisticians and researchers to explore the large repository of data held in the ANZICS Clinical Registry to answer practical questions that may inform or improve patient care. \nPartnering with the Queensland University of Technology’s School of Computer Science and Centre for Data Science\, the ANZICS 2024 Intensive Care Datathon brings together clinical and data science enthusiasts and experts to explore the depths of the ANZICS Registry datasets which hold over 3 million episodes of care.         \nWe welcome students and trainees alike to get involved. Datathons are a great way to enhance your skills\, refine a formal project idea and collaborate with diverse professionals\, whilst being mentored along the way by the best experts in health and data science. \nDr Matt Maiden_Why a Critical Care Datathon is important \nWhy attend a Datathon? Ask the experts. \n\nRegister your interest by Friday 1st March. Click here\nAbout the Data:\nThe data provided will  be extracted from the ANZICS Registry and curated to preserve privacy\, while providing enough information for meaningful analyses. Participants are required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement\, and if the work results in a publication\, the ANZICS Publication Policy must be adhered to.  If there is scientific merit\, we support and encourage teams to continue to work on their field of enquiry towards a formal publication beyond the day of the Datathon. \nWho can attend the Datathon?\nIt is helpful if you are a: \n– Clinician (or trainee) with real experience in the critical care environment \n– Data Scientist (or trainee) with experience in \n\nR/Python/Matlab or SQL queries\nmachine learning\nstatistical modelling or data visualisation\nHow does it work?\nTeams are each assigned a clinical question to interrogate one or more datasets with the aim of generating an insight or solution to the question. At the close of the day\, each team will present their finding(s)\, providing the opportunity for participants to develop skills in showcasing the meaning and value behind the data and its application to the real world. The presentations will be judged by the Datathon mentors\, with the top teams given the opportunity to present findings in a session at the 2024 ANZICS ACCCN Annual Scientific Meeting. \n*Please note\, some preparatory work may be required by participants prior to start of the Datathon. \nWhat if we get stuck on a problem?\nThere is plenty of support for teams to navigate the challenge of the day\, with Datathon mentors and experts in the field of Intensive Care Medicine and Data Science available to assist and mentor you every step of the way. \nWhat do I need to bring?\nBring your own laptop (don’t forget the charger)\, be open to working with others and ready to jump in for the challenge. A rewarding and fun learning opportunity awaits! \nWhat datasets will be available?\nTeams may choose to use one or all the datasets on offer to answer their assigned clinical question. \nThe ANZICS Intensive Care Registry Datasets:\n• The Adult Patient Database\n• The Australian and New Zealand Paediatric Intensive Care Dataset\n• The Critical Care Resources Dataset\n• The Socio-economic data by postcode \nHow are the Datathon presentations judged?\nAbstract presentations are reviewed by the scientific mentors.  Judging is based on clinical relevance and impact – i.e. how your solution may influence or improve current practice\, the novelty and impact of the proposed problem statement\, the result presentation\, and the Team’s plans for the study moving forward. \nFind out more about the ANZICS CORE datasets:\nAPD and CCR Databases by David Pilcher_ANZICS CORE \nANZPICR Database by Breanna Pellegrini \n  \nThe 2024 ANZICS Critical Care Datathon…come along and be a part of it!

SUMMARY:A Joint iSRRS and ANZICS Webinar Sustaining the Rapid Response System in Australia and New Zealand
DESCRIPTION:  \n“Sustaining the rapid response system in Australia and New Zealand”. \nDate and Time: 19th of July from 8:00 AM to 12:50 PM (Melbourne time) to accommodate for international speakers. \nAustralia and New Zealand were early adopters and are world leaders of the Rapid Response System model of care.  Such systems have been associated with reductions in in-hospital cardiac arrests and mortality for hospitalised patients. In Australia and New Zealand rapid response team staff are often comprised of intensive care doctors and nurses. \nIn recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of Rapid Response Team calls for hospitalised patients in many ICU-equipped hospitals. This has led to a strain on intensive care resources\, particularly when the service does not have dedicated staffing. \nThis webinar will address elements of sustainability\, clinician resourcing\, and supervision of registrars involved in the rapid response team. Strategies to improve the recognition and response of at risk in deteriorating patients in the period prior to breaching rapid response team criteria will be explored. These will include strategies for enhanced monitoring of ward patients\, improving pre rapid response team tiers of recognition and response\, and approaches to predict which patients will experience a rapid response team review.  There will also be a discussion about the roles and responsibilities of a Critical Care Outreach Physician. \nThis activity has CICM CPD Accreditation for Category 2A: Passive Group Learning (1 point per hour). \nThe webinar will be free for all members of ANZICS and the iSRRS.\nNon-members can become a member of ANZICS or the iSRRS at the links below: \nJoin iSRRS Membership \nJoin ANZICS Membership \nPlease click on the link below to access: \nRegistration Details and Program Update \nThanking you\, \nOn behalf of iSRRS: Lesley Durham\, Daryl Jones\nOn behalf of ANZICS: Mark Nicholls\, Deepak Bhonagiri\, Gian Sberna\, Sue Huckson\, Phyllis Toparlanis\, Vathsala Pradeep. \nSpeakers Biography & Summary: \n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n Dr. Alison Fox-RobichaudMary PinderJohn WelchA.Prof Winston CheungDr Paul SecombeSteph SprogisKen HillmanBianca LevkovichJosh AllenProf Daryl JonesThis-Event-is-Endorsed-and-Sponsored-by-1

SUMMARY:Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the SG-ANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care Forum is now rebranded to the Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium (APICS)\, brought to you by SICM and ANZICS. \nAPICS was launched last year as a virtual conference in response to the COVID-19 pandemic\, as our flagship event\, SG-ANZICS\, was unable to take place. The response to APICS 2020 exceeded our expectations – we garnered around 3000 international participants and received great feedback for the quality of our talks and speakers. \nMoving forward\, we have concerted our efforts into a single intensive care conference – the Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium (APICS). This rebranding reflects our position as the leading intensive care conference in the Asia Pacific region. APICS continues to be organised by the same intensive care societies behind SG-ANZICS – the Society of Intensive Care Medicine\, Singapore (SICM) and the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS). \nWhat to know for APICS 2021: \n\nThe “SG-ANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care Forum” will now be known as the Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium “APICS by SICM X ANZICS”\nThe official website will now be www.sg-apics.com\nIt will be conducted virtually this year from 17 – 19 July 2021.\n\nWe would like to thank all our delegates\, speakers\, sponsors and exhibitors for your support towards SG-ANZICS throughout these years. We look forward to providing the same high-quality content and unique delegate experience through APICS for many years to come. \nSee you at APICS 2021! \nOrganising Committee \nAPICS 2021
